Love, Life and the Whole Karmic Enchilada; The Very Secret Diary Of A Scientist |

A Chris-in-the-morning inspired blog. Somewhere I can hypothesis on human nature and narrate my own journey of self discovery. That sounds so cheesy! Basically somewhere that I can just spill out the contents of my head.

Last year in October we began looking at flats. The uni puts out a flat list every year at that time so we got hold of one and started calling up the phone numbers that night. We went and looked at some flats that Sunday but most were crap or too far away. The first one we had looked at though was wonderful. Fairly new, it looked kind of like a barn on the outside, but it had nice carpet a wonderful kitchen 2 bathrooms and it was really close to uni. We left our names and contact phone. The teneants of the flat called back a couple of days later to tell us that they wanted us to come to a meeting on that monday at 7:45pm. So we went, we were the third of 3 groups they were talking to. The others all had more girls, but we were the oldest, the youngest being almost 20. Just as we were about to leave Damien chose his moment carefully. We'd discussed this amongst ourselves earlier and now we used it. "Um, would it help if we said we were willing to pay a little more each week?" He said to the landlord. I don't think a single one of us ,missed the glint in his eyes when he heard this. "Well, actually..." he said thoughtfully, "I'm building another flat around the corner from here. It's a bit bigger."etc etc. So we organised to drop round to see the new place the next day. It was brilliant. Completely new, big kitchen, double garage, walk-in wardrobes!, theres even a back lawn (small but still..). So we signed stuff and paid a deposit and now all we have to do is find out the exact date we can move in. (The landlord wants to finish the ladscaping first, the decks etc) So we really struck lucky. No we have to work out what we need. Monday, December 30, 2002
I intend to use this blog to be an accurate recounting of events that happen in my flat this coming year. To begin with I'll introduce you to me and my flatemates. All of us lived in the same halls of residence for the past 2 or 3 years. Me: Megan I was born in NZ grew up in a medium sized city (for NZ which means around 100,000 people.). I'm around 165 cm with red hair and freckles (cliched huh). I went to a girls college, then moved on to uni. Now at the University of Waikato I and studying for a Bachelor of Science majoring in biology. I really like Genetics and Biochemistry, I'm also studying Japanese. Begining my third and last year of my BSc this year, I intend to start my Masters as soon as I finish. Todd: Todd is originally born in Canada moved here (NZ) when he was little. His parents own a farm up north. He's 6 foot 4 and a half. Pale-ish skin dark hair. He can't help but loom, no matter what he's doing. He's quite quiet, only speaks in monosyllables unless he knows you well, but slow and methodical. He spends 10 minutes getting out of the car when he goes somewhere, he checks everythings off, the doors are locked, checks the tires. Everytime. He is studying science, mainly biology, also in his third year like me we'll be doing some of the same papers. Mark: Born in NZ he lived in Asia untill he started uni 32 1/2 years ago. He lived in Indonesia (for a while) then onto the Phillipines. He went to an American International school so he speaks with an American accent. 6 foot 5 with red hair he is studying Computing and mathematical sciences. He has opinions about just about everything. Often not very well founded and quite narrow minded. But he's learning. We were together for a while last year but it never got very serious and we figured it was going nowhere so broke it off and carried on as we had been going beforehand. Damien: I don't know much about Damien, he's a good friend of Todd's so I must trust Todds' judgement on this one. We sat with his often at meal times and I managed to put up with him most of the time. Sometimes he could get annoying. Studying Accounting (and getting good marks) he's a boy racer with a rally expensive car and his favourite word is one of my most hated. (c**t I really don't like to say it, but thought I'd let you know what it was so you'd get the idea of what it's like to be around him.) he usually uses it 10-12 times during a 10 minute conversation (just a guess). But he did have a staedy girlfriend for the most of this year. A lovely little Canadian girl Nita. So if she put up with that there must be some good points. Matt: Matt comes from a small town near Hamilton. He lives with his mother. I think his father lives near but I've never relly heard him talk much about his father. He does see him lots. Both his parents are librarians and he follows after them, quite the bookworm (but them I am too). He is a year ahead of me but studying roughly what I am. Biology. His degree is a year longer than mine and involves 9 moths work experience. A semester he'll only be visiting on the weekends because he'll be working for Forest Reseach in Rotorua. Matt is a lovely boy, quite sweet loves Star Trek, Manchester United. He supports the Kingz (A NZ club soccer team which plays in the Australian soccer league.) despite their rather sad record. Unfortunately I don't think the guy has ever had a girlfriend. He's the sort who deserves someone nice, and I can sense the frustration building. One of my friends once told me 'He really needs to get laid' sadly true. Ivan: Born in NZ his parents are Malaysian. His family owns and works a Chinese takeaways near Auckland. A cursed management student he's studying marketing. He own's a PS2 a drawerfull of games. A computer with a heap of games. At home he has a new Xbox, a Nintendo and another t.v. Still he never seems short of money. He doesn't like to eat vegetables only meat or fast food. He has a very annoying personality most of the time constantly teasing or picking on people. Possibly he was the butt of many jokes now he picks on anybody else he can, particularly those he thinks everyone else will laugh at too, possibly to take the heat of him. Not that we give him a lot. He thinks he knows a lot of things always telling people what he thinks about things. But sometimes he's alright. Usually when noone else is around. At least he usually lets us use his PS2. For A semester we are planning on advertising for another flatmate, preferably female so that Matt won't have to pay 2 rents simultaneously. Well that's my flatmates. When I figure out all the code for blogs I'll turn this into a Glossary of People and add other people I mention. |
