Love, Life and the Whole Karmic Enchilada; The Very Secret Diary Of A Scientist

A Chris-in-the-morning inspired blog. Somewhere I can hypothesis on human nature and narrate my own journey of self discovery. That sounds so cheesy! Basically somewhere that I can just spill out the contents of my head.

So this page is turing into my rant page. Good.
This weeks rant:
My flatmates are arsholes. Well Damian and Ivan anyway.
Okay Damian first.
I think Damian has something against women in general, I suspect he may be a sort of male supremacist. If you can be. The type that thinks along the lines of '..don't get me wrong, some of my best friends are black/jews/other hated social groups, I just wouldn't want them living next door.' He's sort of '..don't get me wrong women are great I love my girlfriend but women are stupid and low and existant to do mens bidding.'
If something happens in the house it's either mine or Sarahs fault. Like the freezer the other morning. Damian comes down for breakfast and the freezer is open and stuff is starting to defrost. Because I was the last person to get anything out of it (my icecream) he says 'Megan you left the freezer open.' fair enoughish I guess. I reply 'No I didn't.' Because I had spent a full minute at least rearranging the stuff in it so that it WOULD close and stay closed. 'Yes you did!' he replies. I tell him that Todd saw me close it last night. I closed it. Then I pretend not to hear the rest of the conversation.

Now Ivan's turn. There are a number of events that have occured in the flat relating to the tv in the living room and the SKY. Ivan I believe is the origin of these happeneings with prompting from Damian. So the boys got sky. I said I didn't want it because a) I don't have the money and b) I don't see the point I watch enough tv with 5 channels.
One day while I'm making my lunch I decide to turn on Juice tv and watch some music videos while I prepare the food. What can the boys have against me watching 10 minutes of music. I press the channell number and appears the blue sky screen thingy. 'Please enter parental lock code..'
They've put a pin number on sky in the form of a parental lock. At least I can still watch Nikkelodeon and cartoon network I guess. I can see Ivan's thought processes now. They (being me and sarah) didn't pay ---> they shouldn't watch ---> we keep them out.
Nowhere in ther does it occur to him to say to us 'Because you guys didn't pay for sky you shouldn't watch it.'
Then a couple of days ago I went downstairs to the main tv to watch something on tv 1 because my reception has been pretty bad for tv1 lately. I turn on the tv and the sky screen comes up saying 'Please enter your sky card' I press everything I can think of to get tv1 but no! Now they are trying to stop me and sarah from watching tv at all!!! The little fuckwits!
Anyway today I waited until they had all gone to uni because I wanted to watch Eastenders. It's on tv1 so I went downstairs sure enough 'please enter sky card'. So I looked on the tv table for the card, under the decoder behind then I looked under damians playstation as I lifted it up I heard a rattle. Hmm I thought would they. Sure enough they'd HIDDEN the card in the playstation where the CD goes. So I watched Eastenders and put the card back! What on earth would posses them to try and deny their flatmates the tv. It' there for all of us. But hang on! Not all of us paid for it. So now Ivan's thinking they didn't pay for the tv. We won't let them watch it. DESPITE the fact that HE could only watch tv for the first 3 weeks because I had the good grace to put MY tv in the living room and sacrifice some of my viewing so THEY could watch things!!!!! FUCK FUCK FUCK DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so three weeks in and I can't stand the cooking already! I've decided that as of next week I'm going to do my own cooking. I can't eat this way. All we've had for dinner for the past two weeks is sausages, chicken nuggets and fish cakes. I need real food. I'm going to break the news to the boys tonight. What I'm not looking forward to is Ivan nitpicking. He's going to ask things like are you going to buy your own vegetables and what about all the things like spices etc. I'm going to buy my own veges and I brought most of the spices with me and the things that are already in the cupboard I've already paid for.
I'm looking forward to next week already. The first thing I'm going to make is Butter Chicken! Yay!

Well Sarah is really nice. I've finally found out. We've got a bit in common too. Not the least being that we both have asian boyfriends. Actually she told me some horror stories about people abusing them when they go out. Kiwis, polynesian girls and older asian people. Lovely. But her boyfriend Peter is really nice too. And he speaks Cantonese like my Cloud. They haven't met each other yet, but Sarah actually met Cloud before I did! She met him when he was in town one day with Todd. Because she already knew Todd she said hello to them. Apparently she's always had a thing for asian guys too, and apparently when she first saw Cloud she thought he was pretty damn good looking. When I told her my boyfriends name was Cloud she said 'Cloud's your fella? Damn he's a good catch.' I told Cloud last night what she said and he was quite flattered.
Well as far as the flat is going, we are getting the washing machine tommorow after noon. I owe Damian $104 which is not too bad. Except I'm only going to be able to pay it back a little bit every week. He doesn't like that idea but the fact of the matter is that I don't have the cash. The guys knew that already. We've had a couple of arguments already. Too be expected with Ivan in the house. I was only involved in one. Okay so Ivan had made alist of things he wanted to bring to the landlords' attention. Light bulbs missing (oh no we'll have to pay $2 for a light bulb can't have that.) no garage door, lights that don't actually work. And also 'Water doesn't heat up adequately.' So the hot water is on a system where gas heats it as it's used. I honestly don't see what the landlord could do about it. It's just how it works. So I said as much to him. He said he may as well bring it up witht he landlord. So I said 'Well just make sure you make it clear to the landlord that it's you that wants this not the rest of us. Because I don't want him thinking I think that.' And so Ivan says 'Well don't bite my head of. I'm just trying to make things better for us.' I know this doesn't sound so bad from his point of veiw whens is written down like this. But Ivan is a real pillock I swear he thinks that it's his right that Higher Powers should change the weather so he doesn't have to get wet running from his car to class in the winter. Ivan never does_anything_wrong. Oh no. Even when HE backed into Todds' car he tried to make it like it wasn't his fault.

Well here I am moved into the flat. When I got here Damien and Mark were already here. I got the room I thought I'd be getting. Damien because he was here first got the one next to me which I also wouldn't have minded. Apparently Nita his girlfriend from Canada will be coming to stay after her exams in April. She'll be here either 3 weeks or 3 months. That'll be quite nice. Nita's a really nice girl.
We've got the power, gas and phone set up. We as yet have no washing machine, there's still a bit of an argumant over whether we should rent or buy. If we rent it's under warantee. ie if it breaks, it gets fixed or replaced for free. I think we should rent but if I'm going to be here longer than one year it'll be cheaper to buy one with the rest of the flat. The boys also want to get sky t.t. Just uhf so far. How long before they want digital? I don't see the point. I live quite happily on just 5 channels. (I get prime from my room! So I can watch M.A.S.H!!!!!!!) And we need to get a t.v. for the flat. Currntly my tv is in the living room. Ivan thinks we're going to get a 29 inch flat screen. $1000 roughly. He's got his head up his arse if he thinks I'm going to pay almost $200 for a part of the t.v. If he wants that HE can get it.
I bought the fish 3 days ago! They're the most loving gorgeous fish. Aragorn and Leggie Lulu are gold coloured and Ron is orange with a white spot on his right side. Whenever I move around in my room they come up to the side of the tank nearest where I am and watch me. They're very friendly with each other too. Mostly they swin around in a group. It's not a large tank but they still stick together. Like they really enjoy being around each other. Ooooh!
My parents came over today because they were bringing my sister over to move into the halls of residence. It was good having them see my room and place all filled with stuff and livable. They brought over stuff I had forgotten. Like the fish tank cleaner tube.
I hope Erin's settling in alright.

Well apparently Sarah is a definite. I still don't know crap all about her. I don know that's she's quiet and reserved that leaves me hopeful that I'll get along with her. Because that's what I'm like too. I wonder if she likes Lord of the Rings adn Harry Potter as much as I do too?

Well, it's one week til move in and I've found out that we have to pay rent as of this monday. That's one extra week to add to the budget. Then I remembered the bond. 2 weeks rent, and the insurance which because it's a flat will have high premiums because with six keys wandering around it's more likely that one will get lost etc. I will have no money left in a couple of weeks. Well actually I will have $174 to feed myself for 3 weeks and pay bills.

It's nearly move in day. I realised I have 3 weeks of rent to pay before my studnet loan kicks in. Although I realised I can save that money again if I live on creamed rice for a couple of months. Just kidding. But it does mean I'm going o have to get a job, especially if I want to pay for the room over the summer. I might ask Julie if she can keep an eye out for any jobs going at the place she's working. Well the whole sixth flatemate thing is... well maybe a little sorted out. I know that she was on C-top 2 years ago (they gave her the nickname of 'mess' in the yearbook. Oh yay) and her names Sarah and she's quite quiet and reserved. According to Ivan, but he also says that Damian and Todd know her best. I asked him if he could find out more about her and let me know. No news yet.
Then there's Nathalie. Now that Julie has moved in with a group of vegetarians (yay for her) Nat is kind of dumped up the creek without a paddle. She doesn't want to move into a flat with people she doesn't know and she doesn't want to live by herself. She's not even sure she'll be going back to uni this semester. It's really frustrating because I've grown so used to having her around this last year and now I don't know what I'll do. I'll have Julie though, but I feel like I owe her so much. I have to make up for the last two years, show that I really can be a good friend. And I need Nattie to come over and be mean to Ivan when I get pissed at him. aka every couple of days.
Ah1 We'll have to see how it goes when I get over there.

I have just spent nearly two hundred dollars on furniture. Well a desk an office chair and two t.v tables. (one for the flat and one for me). I still haven't got a matress. Things are starting to come together. We have roughly three sets of pots and pans coming. Oh and apparantly we have a sixth flatemate. (note the annoyance in the writing there.) I received an email from Mark (the only one who seems to be keeping us all in contact.) and among prices for washing machines and microwaves it says "Thank you Tod for getting us a sixth flatmate Sarah." What the hell is with that. No mention of it before now. What does she do? Where does she come from? What's she like? I really do hate guys! It's not like I hate this girl. I don't even know who she is. But you see, THAT'S the problem. Most people would think to consult all the people in the flat before they decide to take on someone as a flatmate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I got an email yesterday from Mark, he wanted everyone to list what group stuff they would be bringing into the house. I felt so terrible, the best I could do was knives can opener and plastic storage stuff. Mark's also bringing a toasted sandwich maker and electric jug Ivan with his fridge. Hmph.
My bed still hasn't arrived at the furniture place (it was supposed to be there by the end of the year), so I called them. It's coming in between next monday and thursday. Yay! Queen bed for me. I freaked my mum out good when we were looking at the bed. It's kind of like a metal sleigh bed so it's got a bit along the bottom right. I was saying how you'd have to be careful where you put it in a room because if there were 2 people in the bed and one was against the wall and they wanted to get out it'd be difficult trying to climb over the rail, or they'd have to climb over the other person. She looked at me and said "Hang on hang on. This would have to depened on there 2 people in the bed!" Oops. I just need a matress and sheets for the bed now. I already have 2 duvets and we bought another pillow the other day. I think I have a bit of a cusion fetish, I had about 5 cusions at the end of last year no counting my tri pillow and the pillow I nicked from the halls and then I bought another one just before Christmas. But it's so cool. It's got a cover like those silk Chinese dresses. mmmm smooth. It's weird I'm focusing so much on the bed. But I just feel like it's going to be the most important part of my room. No! Not for_those_reasons, but I spend so much time on my bed. I sit there and work I know I should use a desk and I lie there to watch t.v and read and of course there is the boyfriend_but_that's only part of the reason.
I'm also starting to worry about the cooking. I don't know who I'll be cooking with. Not Ivan I hope. I couldn't handle two nights a week trying to cook with Ivan. I guess I'll be able to handle eating his cooking, but trying to cook something decent and healthy ('cause I see that that's going to be up to me the healthy part anyway) with Mr 'I don't eat vegetables and everything has to be fried if it can claim the name food'. And everybody is going to have different ideas about what they eat. Damian doesn't like spicy stuff (he once called a McChicken burger too spicy) and he won't eat chicken off the bone. Todd is allergic to seafood and has to have chicken cooked very well (but that's okay because he got food poisoning from halls chicken last year and lost a lot of wieght- he didn't have a lot to start with). I'm worried that they're not going to like the food I'm used to cooking at home. Oh well.

We've at least got a good start on furnishings and stuff for a household. We have 4 14" t.vs between us, a PS2, a fridge/freezer, 6 lounge chairs (which we bought for $2 each from the halls., a dining table (slightly not legally aquired but I had nothing to do with it.), some kitchen utensils (I got a cooking knive set for Christmas), some crockery and each of us has to figure out our own bedrooms. I know that I've paid a deposit on a Queen-sized bed frame (Queen because they don't make doubles anymore and I wasn't going to keep sleeping in a single). I've still got to get a matress, that'll have to be second-hand. I should be able to buy a set of drawers from a family friend who's moving house, also buying a computer desk from my boyfriend who doesn't need it because he's going into another halls (one where you live in a flat-type place with 4 other people and you cook for yourself).
We're planning on writing down a list of what everybody brings into the flat so we know what everybody gets to take out. Oh, and I'm going to take my sisters old fish tank over too. I've decided on three fish. I figured it would be nice to have some sort of a flat pet. A cat would not do, or a dog. So fish it is. At least they're cheap. Now all we have to do is name them. Maybe I'll get to have Merlin III.
